How do we make change?
-
Work with people who have real experience with specific problems - that means workers, people facing poverty or addiction, renters, farmers…
-
Bring together many perspectives - none of us has the whole picture on our own.
-
Look at the evidence - see what solutions have already been tried elsewhere. We can be open to new ideas without reinventing the wheel if there are solutions out there already.
The Issues
I value:
-
Affordability - people should be able to afford a safe place to live, food, & other basic needs.
-
True public safety - we can reduce crimes of desperation by making sure people have what they need to thrive.
-
Transparency - participating in local governance & finding public information should both be easy.
Some changes I support:
-
Establishing a tenants bill of rights to protect renters and hold landlords accountable for the maintenance of their property.
-
Reducing unnecessary development requirements, like lot size and parking minimums, in order maximize the amount of housing we can create.
-
Publishing the draft budget online for easier access to increase public input before it’s finalized.
